What do I write? Articles, letters, emails, talking points…

I write copy that supports the efforts of corporate communicators to keep employees informed. I can be an extension of your team for either short-term projects, such as article writing and editing; or ongoing projects, such as managing a regular publication.

Research & Writing

Do you have a newsletter or website that needs fresh content on a regular basis? If so, I can research and write feature or news articles to your specifications, style, length and deadline. You can expect clean, readable copy that accomplishes your strategic purpose.

Editing

Do you write long complex speeches or articles that go through many iterations as they are fine-tuned by the sources and your leadership team? My fresh, trained eyes can spot typos, errors, lapses in congruity that escape your notice because you’ve been looking at this copy so long. I can help you tighten or restructure it and track down and confirm additions.

Publication Management

Do you have an ongoing publication that no one on your staff can find time for? I can manage editorial content of ongoing publications either as a writer of the entire publication or as editor, assigning and editing articles by other writers.

Coaching Writers

Do you have a staff member who is being held back in their career because of their writing? While there are many articles available on how to improve writing, my personal attention can do what they can’t – zero in on specific areas for that particular writer to improve. These areas would include organization, writing better leads and endings, grammar, using stronger verbs, congruity and sentence variety.

What is my process?

I’d like to meet with you (if possible, in person) to discuss your needs. You can describe the challenges you and your team face and how editorial support will best help you. Together, we can decide if we are a good match.

The process for most articles and projects is as follows:

  • By phone (or email) you explain the subject, the vehicle, style you prefer, the audience, key messages or strategic purpose and the deadline. Also, you would provide contact information and any written material you have.
  • I take it from there. I will gather any additional information needed by research or by interviewing your subject matter experts (either by email or phone in most cases).
  • Then I’ll write the article and email it to you for your comments.
  • I can collaborate with your team, help coordinate photos or graphics, include links, make any edits you desire and coordinate approvals with sources, if needed.

Pricing

Fees can range from an hourly to a project rate and are based on the scope and complexity of your project.
